The Beehouse Sanctuary

Our Beehouse Sanctuary is a purpose built log cabin, which has been designed to harness the therapeutic benefits of the environment created by keeping a number of honey bee colonies in an enclosed area.

These colonies are housed within two 'bee beds'. The hives are totally self contained, with entrances that exit from underneath the bed, enabling the bees to come and go from their hive as normal. The bee beds have a number of vents built into the fronts, which enable the air from within the hives to circulate in the house, along with any sounds and vibrations from the movement of the bees' wings as they move around the hives.

Guests can relax either seated or lying down on the bee beds and enjoy the benefits of spending time in this unique multisensory and immersive environment. In addition to the hives under the beds, an observation hive allows guests to watch and hear bees as they work in their hive. We have also installed a camera on the outside of the beehouse, so that guests can watch and hear the bees as they enter and exit their hive entrance.

Our Beehive House is designed to harness these benefits in a safe, enclosed environment where bees live in hives underneath the house beds. A secure mesh system keeps the bees separate and ensures that only the natural hive aromas infuse the space, creating a truly immersive bee and nature wellbeing experience.

What is Beehive therapy

Apitherapy is a globally recognised complementary therapy that uses the natural substances and energy of bees, such as honey, propolis, hive air and vibrations, to support health and wellness. Although honey, beeswax and propolis has long been recognised for their beneficial properties and have been utilised in many ways throughout history, more recently, beekeepers in northern European countries, where challenging climatic conditions means that honey bee colonies are kept in 'bee huts' to help them survive temperature extremes, noticed some destinct benefits that are now recognised more widely.

What your Beehouse Experience involves
